One thing is clear as we head into a contentious election season. Few people are capable of seeing the issue from the perspective of the other side. When you feel strongly about something - take some time and try to see it from the other person's point of view. This is a dying art in our country and something we should all be capable of doing. It is the root cause of some of the social unrest and the desire to cancel everyone who says anything impolite or that offends someone. We all need to listen more and shout less.
You cannot be an effective advocate for your position unless you understand the concerns of the other person.
If you convince yourself that the other guy is evil, you won't be able to compromise.
